Rome, Monday

It was so great to get a good night's sleep last night! I'm so happy we have a room with only us two in it, it makes so many things easier!

Since Rome is huge and there is just way too much to see and too much walking  involved we decided on a bus tour that you can get on and off wherever you want to in the route, see the sights, then go back to the bus stop and wait for the next bus which runs something like every 30 min. It's a great way to do Rome! It was quite cold and rainy on and off today. We mentioned that it was a lot like home, rainy and cold one min, and then sunny and comfortable the next! The busses for our tour are double decker busses, and of course Ashley wanted to sit on the top! It was a bit cold up there, but we were able to get some awesome pictures from up there! I was glad I listened to her and we sat up there!

Driving around Rome was fun to see all of the old architecture and great colors on the buildings, but it was nothing like pulling up next to the Coliseum! It is totally amazing to be there, to walk in it and touch the walls that have been standing there since 80 AD! It's such an amazing thought to try and wrap my head around! It's enormity and presence is just breathtaking, as in really, it took my breath away a few times. Like when we were walking up the staircase, the really steep staircase to get to the top. Yep, took my breath away. Around the sides of the structure are some rooms set up as a museum for many artifacts that date way back as well. Sculptures, busts, parts of columns, art, some old military diplomas written on metal plates connected with rings in the middle-- reminded me of the plates used for scriptures back in the day. In the bottom of the arena you can see footings and walls for a bunch of smaller rooms that was under the coliseum floor (which is not there anymore). They would keep animals in these rooms and then bring them into the arena when the time was right. Anyway, it was just really really cool to be there. I am sure Ashley is tired of me saying how amazing it was to actually be there, we were standing in the Coliseum, in Rome. Wow!

All around the Coliseum there are other ruins from Ancient Rome. You can see where buildings were, where the central market and city were. It was soo cool to see remnants of the actual buildings in Ancient Rome. I loved seeing the details in the brickwork, the columns, the walkways and the domes. To touch a brick wall that was built by hands that lived so long ago is truly an amazing thing!

We are back at our hostel now. You know how I mentioned that we were moving to a new room? One that was supposed to be nicer?? Yeah, well we asked to stay in our first room the rest of our stay. The room they wanted to move us to was half the size of the first one, and the showers are all in one room, with just the shower stall being private rather than the whole bathroom to yourself. And MOST IMPORTANTLY the first room we were in had wifi!! They told us that we would have to go to the lobby to get wifi, but we can get it in our room! Yipee! It makes it so nice to be able to come back to a private room, get comfortable and get connected to wifi. Ahhh, so nice!

Ok, well, I'll load up some pictures, and off to bed!

As always, I love and miss y'all! XOXO

PS....is anyone even reading this?? I don't ever get any comments, so I'm just checking   :)
