Road trip!!! AKA...Puke Day!!!

4:30 am. I couldn't sleep. Not sure if there was just to much on my mind, or if it was the time change or what. I laid there for another few hours until it was finally time to get up at about 7. We got to the bus station a little early, which was fine because we would both rather be early than late! Justine and David were kind enough to drive us there and David suprised us with a sticker of a cross that Ashley and I had been talking about the day before! It is all over Cehegin and we both thought it was really cool, but we didn't know what it was. David explained that years ago while digging up some ancient ruins within the city they had found the cross. It has on each end a different symbol. On the top was XP- which is the symbol for Christ, on the left arm was the Alpha sign, and on the right arm is the Omega sign. After hearing it's meaning it meant even more to us. Ashley had almost bought a necklace the day before with the cross, but it was real silver and around 30 euros, so she decided we should save the money. We were both touched with David's gift. He didn't know that I had decided to buy a sticker for each place that we were going to visit to put on my suitcase and was disappointed that I didn't have one from Cehegin.  After our farewells they were on their way home and we soon boarded our bus.

Little did we know that our trip would not end that day anything like we had planned! About 45 min into our trip neither of us were feeling well. I searched my purse for the dramamine I had bought at the airport, but I couldn't find it! I figured I must have put it in my suitcase, which was under the bus in the luggage compartment! As the miles and minuets passed I continued to feel more and more nauseous, and Ashley was not feeling well either. Finally the bus made a stop to pick up passengers and we quickly got off and asked if we could get medicine out of our bags. The driver hesitantly agreed, although he didn't seem very happy about it. I franticly searched my case with my shaky and sweaty hands to no avail. No Dramamine there either! The driver quickly closed up the compartment and  we hurried back on the bus hoping that we could somehow make the journey. Almost to the next stop it was clear that we needed to get off immediately. I'll leave out the details, but let's just say we were really glad for a tupperware container that Phil had left in the suitcase Ashley had borrowed from him and equally glad that we had decided to use it for the cheese we bought to take with us rather than throwing it away. Tupperware was a great option for what happened next, especially since the next best option was my hat. There are too many details to spell out here, but let's just say that we spent the day in a little city in Spain who's bus station had no seats on the toilets, and no internet. We wandered the city and found a few good things... motion sickness medicine (we think) and lunch at a nice little cafe. Ashley came up with a plan B that sounded great to both of us! Our plan A was to travel by bus to Valencia (3 hours) and then another bus ride to Barcelona (4 hours). We were going to stay in Barcelona that night, and then take another bus ride which would be something like 10 hours to Nice, France where we would spend the night and catch a train, stop for another night, and then one more train to Rome. Plan B we both thought at this point was MUCH better due to our experience on the bus that morning. Plan B was that we went back to Murcia, and then off to Alicante Airport where we found and booked a flight to Venice-there wasn't one direct to Rome. We stayed the night in Alicante in a nice and fairly inexpensive hotel that had an amazing free breakfast in the morning-which also helped us with a few snacks for the day :) Our flight didn't leave until late the next evening so we were able to spend a great day in the beautiful city and at the beach. It was really a great and relaxing way to spend the day and we were sooooooo glad that we changed our plans! We even found a hotel that checked in our luggage for the day so we didn't have to haul it around with us all day! After a late night flight we quickly found ourselves almost alone at 2am at the airport in Venice. No other option but a taxi to take us to our Camp site/hostel. Ashley had arranged for us to stay at Camping Fusina where we have half of a little trailer/cabin with a small room and two beds. There is a small heater and just enough room for both of us and all of our stuff. We both love it and think it's great! The bathrooms, showers, and laundry are close by and we feel great about the 17 euros each a night compared to the high costs of a hotel. There is a boat that picks us up right down the street and takes us over to Venice and the other islands. The campground is right on the beach, we are heading to see it tomorrow, although it's not hot enough to really take advantage of. All in all our plan B cost us a bit of unexpected money, but really was what was the best plan to go with. We plan to be careful with our food budget and keep our souvenirs to a minimum and we should be just fine!
